Denture related oral lesions
Oral sores in denture users are frequent and require prompt attention, as they often need treatment.
The problem: Dental caries/ tooth decay develops when bacteria in the mouth metabolize sugars to produce acid that demineralizes enamel and dentin.
The solution: Reduce sugar consumption and limit the frequency of sugar intake.
1. Reduce your sugar intake (added sugar as well as naturally-occurring sugars in honey, fruit juices and syrups) and choose better alternatives where possible.
2. Drink plenty of water and limit sodas, energy drinks, fruit juices and sweetened tea. Also, drink water after eating especially when something sugary was consumed in order to rinse of sugars and food particles.
3. Eat sugar at meal times rather than during the day in order to limit the amount of sugar attacks taking place.
4. Use sugarless alternatives (like Xylitol), especially when chewing gum or drinking multiple sweetened coffees/ teas during the day.
5. Maintain a fixed twice daily dental hygiene routine that include brushing and flossing and visit your dental hygienist twice a year.

Safety gear is key for sports like rugby, hockey, basketball, boxing, football, gymnastics, handball, martial arts, skateboarding, soccer, and squash.
Tooth decay is avoidable. The dental team, patient, and parents must work together to adopt practices that keep teeth free of cavities.
